Tyler Bertuzzi reportedly has a genius plan in mind for the 2023-2024 season that could potentially allow him to hit the jackpot.
The left winger was undoubtedly one of the most interesting free agent targets this summer and it was the Toronto Maple Leafs who won the auction. The Ontario native receives $5.5 million… for a single campaign.

This short-term contract surprised many, as Bertuzzi appeared to be in a position to demand more money and gain stability. Despite being injured, the 28-year-old forward scored 30 points in 49 games for the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins during the regular season. With the latter he scored 10 points in seven games in the playoffs.
According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs and Bertuzzi’s intention was to reach a long-term agreement, but they did not have the opportunity to do so immediately, he reported Wednesday.
There are a few options open for Bertuzzi, as he will not be tied to a contract at the trade deadline. He should play on the front two lines in Toronto alongside Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, John Tavares, William Nylander or Max Domi.
This could inflate his individual stats, as his best offensive season previously was in 2021-2022, when he collected 30 goals and 62 points in 68 games. The raise he will then receive with another team or the Leafs — taking advantage of the possible salary cap increase in 2024 — could be huge.
Now all you need to do is know about this paid campaign and of course stay healthy.
