Timeline

The community of Wöllersdorf-Steinabrückl (Wiener Neustadt district) turned into a ghost town on Tuesday. The night started with a scary walk through the forest with several stops and ended in the so-called “Halloween City”.

Red light and fog marked the beginning of the walk through the forest, accompanied by spooky songs played by two horror clowns. The spooky walk lasted almost 40 minutes through the dark forest, where ghosts and witches hid behind tree trunks and bushes.

Even from a distance it was possible to see the first station, which was prepared with care and love for young and old. Organizers led children and families in several groups through the darkness to the stations.

Preparations for Halloween night took more than two months, said organizer Wolfgang Gaupmann. The community’s houses and alleys were decorated by the residents themselves. Behind every mask there would be dedicated neighbors who would go to great lengths to organize a spooky night for the kids. But for Gaupmann it is a great joy to see children shine every year.

Creative costumes

In “Halloween Town” young and old gathered for drinks, spider cakes, a bonfire with marshmallows, a children’s disco and a fireworks show. Not only did children dress up, many adults also wore unusual costumes. Some of the most popular this year were skeletons, ghosts and pumpkins.

The daunting walk with 600 participants this year was already full just days before October 31st. Interest has recently increased each year. “We’re so lucky to live here and the alley is totally Halloween fanatic. We were right in the middle and so we decided we would participate,” says a couple who set up a drilling tent in front of their house.
