After the start +, X, ÷ And =Ed Sheeran completes the equation with –, a new album is expected this spring. The singer promises his fans “a window to his soul” with this sixth career opus.

“I worked on Substract for a decade trying to shape the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs. Then, in early 2022, came a series of events that changed my life, my mental health and my vision of music and art,” the 32-year-old Briton explains on his social media.
“Writing is my therapy. It helps me to understand my feelings. I wrote without thinking about what would become of the songs, I wrote everything that wanted to come out. And in just over a week, I replaced a decade’s worth of work with my darkest, deepest thoughts,” he continues.
Sickness, Death and Justice
The album – whose title is pronounced subtract – will contain 14 original tracks. It will be thrown in the bin on May 5th. The exercise will have been therapeutic for the 32-year-old Briton, who had to endure several pitfalls during the creation process.
“Within a month, my pregnant wife learned that she had a tumor that could not be treated until our child was born. My best friend Jamal, who was like a brother to me, died suddenly and I found myself in court defending my integrity and my writing career. I got caught in a whirlwind of anxiety, depression and anxiety,” Ed Sherran tells his 42.4 million Instagram followers.
“For the first time, I’m not trying to release an album that people will like. I’m starting something honest and representative of where I am in my adult life,” the singer concludes.
The album – will be released on May 5th.
