A woman faces sexual assault charges in Mauricie

A 27-year-old woman from Saint-Justin in the Mauricie region was arrested June 19 before being charged with sexual assault and assault, crimes she allegedly committed against a woman with intellectual disabilities.

This was announced by the Sûreté du Québec in a press release. Stéphanie Hamel is accused of having committed the crime in 2023. However, investigations tend to suggest that she would have made another victim with a similar profile in the past year, according to SQ.

“As several victims were identified, the Serial Crime Investigation Management Structure (GECS) coordinated by the SQ was deployed. It is a unified command structure in which Quebec police services work together to quickly identify and arrest crimes committed by predators,” the SQ said.

Stéphanie Hamel remained imprisoned. She will stand trial again on June 22 at the Trois-Rivières courthouse.
