Woman killed husband and gave skulls to neighbors
Woman killed her own husband, disposed of the body and gave the skull to a neighbor
Head was delivered in a box that the perpetrator said contained “sex toys.”
The criminal acted to keep her husband’s inheritance
A woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison late last week in Castro Urdiales, Spain, after killing her own husband and turning the victim’s head over to a neighbor.
The popular jury found Carmen Merino guilty in 2019 of the murder of Jesús Maria Baranda, 67, because of aggravating family relationships.
Carmen has been jailed for three years after being identified as the perpetrator of the murder. At that time, the woman killed her husband and dismembered the body.
Initially, Jesús was reported missing. Six months after her disappearance, and in light of the police investigation, Carmen gave her husband’s head to a neighbor.
At the time, the suspect delivered the alreadydecomposing skull in a box, claiming they were “sex toys” and that she was ashamed to keep them at home.
The neighbor agreed to keep the alleged items, but over time decided to open the box as she was bothered by the strong odor rising inside. He hit the victim’s head.
Criminal wanted inheritance from husband
According to a police investigation, Carmen killed her husband, who was interested in the victim’s money, of which she was the only heir.
The judge in charge of the case stated that it was not possible to determine why the criminal kept Jesús’ skull as the rest of her husband’s body had been discarded without any indication of where it might be.
However, the suspicion is that Carmen had planned to place the skull in an easytofind location to confirm the victim’s death.
This would speed up the process of turning the inheritance over to them, which could take many years if Jesús continued to be reported “missing”.
