A young mother was stabbed to death by her partner in northern Quebec

According to our information, the 24-year-old young woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her partner Adamie Paningayak in her family’s apartment this morning.

In front of a witness

At the time of the tragedy, two children aged 3 and 6 were found at the scene of the accident. A 14-year-old girl also reportedly witnessed the scene.

“The patrol officers were called there. At the scene, a seriously injured woman was found outside,” confirms Nancy Fournier, sergeant of the Sûreté du Québec, who quickly took over the investigation.

The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The 24-year-old suspect was found in the house. The latter was seriously injured. According to initial findings, he apparently inflicted his injuries on himself.

Authorities also feared for his life before his condition stabilized. He was then transferred to the Akulivik Service Center, where he appeared via videoconference at the Amos Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon.

He was subsequently charged with premeditated murder.

There have been three domestic violence-related murders in Nunavik since last January, two women and one man.

“What is causing this violence here in Nunavik? We are faced with drug and alcohol use,” explains Mr. Abel.

It would also be the sixth femicide in the province this year.
