Ronny Chieng won Wednesday night’s AACTA Award for Best Stand-up Special, but the comedian had more pressing matters to attend to.

The Malaysian-born actor, 37, was unable to attend the prestigious awards ceremony because he had to get the laundry ready instead.

Still, New York-based Chieng didn’t want to miss out on his award, so he video-came out of his hotel room to give his acceptance speech while he was ironing.

Bojana Novakovic and Gracie Otto presented the award for his Netflix special Speakeasy on stage at The Hordern in Sydney.

Always the prankster at heart, footage of Chieng surfaced on the big screen as they announced him as the winner.

Standing in his hotel room, he ironed a white button-down shirt while delivering his acceptance speech, thanking his Australian wife Hannah Pham, his managers, producers and directors.

Chieng also thanked the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for the “support and platform when I was starting out”.

Cinematographer Cameron Barnett was next on the list, along with colleagues from All Things Comedy, Century Artists and Netflix America.

“I also want to thank everyone who came to see my shows. I started doing stand-up comedy in Australia and Australia has always popped up for me and I really appreciate that,” Chieng added.

“And to all the minority communities in Australia who are listening to this right now, I just want to say, especially Asian Australians, I hope this shows that if you work hard and choose talented people to work with, you can do it too Cool stuff if you are moving to America for the first time.

Chieng was one of many actors to win awards on the Australian film industry’s night of nights.

Chris Hemsworth received the coveted Trailblazer Award and beamed as he took to the stage to accept it from fellow actor Russell Crowe, with whom he co-starred in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Crowe, 58, burst with pride as he watched Hemsworth, 39, deliver his acceptance speech from the side of the stage.

It is the first time Hemsworth has received an award from the organization, with his only nomination being for the 2020 Global Star of the Decade.

The former Home and Away star, who joins previous winners Simon Baker, Isla Fisher Rose Byrne, said he didn’t take his start in Australia’s big screen industry for granted.
