“I’m a positive thinker. I’m convinced that eventually they will find a solution,” he said Monday, according to ESPN network comments.
The Rodgers saga picked up steam on March 15 during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show podcast. The center said he wants to continue his NFL career with the Jets. However, the 39-year-old veteran is still a member of the Green Bay Packers, the team he has played for his entire career.
Since Rodgers publicly stated his intentions, the Packers and Jets have been unable to agree on the terms of a trade.
“It takes two to tango,” Saleh said. It’s a process and we respect it. When it’s done, it will be done.”
Multiple layers
The Jets are looking for quarterback stability after watching Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco start in 2022. The New York team went 7-10 and missed the playoffs for the 12th straight year.
Of the above names, only Wilson remains with the Jets. The player selected with the second overall pick of the 2021 draft is still part of Saleh’s plans.
“He’s our number 2,” said the head coach.
“I continue to believe that Zach has a future in our league and can be a very good quarterback there. I really believe it. He’s got a good work ethic, he’s focused and he’s got a knife between his teeth. We’re counting on him being a fixture here for a while.”
