Abandoned children: More than 140 families have already applied for adoption – TVA Nouvelles

Since the report aired, more than 140 families have expressed interest in adopting one of Quebec's 30 young orphans who have serious needs and cannot find a loving home Newspaper last Saturday.

“It's incredible, it doesn't stop!” reacts Danielle Piché, general director of the Emmanuel Association, whose mission is to adopt these children who have no family. We’re all excited.”

Last Saturday, Le Journal reported that 30 Quebec children with serious special needs (autism, physical disability, developmental delay, etc.) cannot be adopted.

This is a record for at least 10 years, on average they are four years old. Some are even little babies. The reasons for dropping out are numerous: drug addiction, psychological problems, parental incompetence, etc.

They are now all under the legal custody of the Director of Youth Protection (DYP) throughout Quebec. They live in hospitals, rehabilitation centers or with foster families.

People are interested

In just five days, at least 144 families contacted the association and 92 information packs were downloaded.

“People want information,” notes Ms. Piché, whose team is busy dealing with the flood of calls. I didn’t expect so many results.”

In recent months, the Emmanuel association had even started publishing children's profiles on social networks in the hope of finding them a family.

Obviously, interested parties must go through an entire legal process to be eligible, which can take several months. However, according to Ms. Piché, it is clear that due to this massive increase in potential candidates, several children will find a family.

“We have to look at the profile of families and children. But if they are accredited by the DPJ, it can happen very quickly,” she specifies.

Great progress

Additionally, families who have adopted these children have reported the great progress they have made in a stimulating and loving environment.

Please note that the association seeks permanent adoptions and does not seek temporary foster families.
