Abnormal Cutie: It’s not over yet

The mercury has been unusually hot since early November. The peak of that wave of sweetness came on Saturday, when Quebec even set a new monthly record for the province. The figures on the thermometer reached 25.3 ° C in Saint-Anicet, in Montérégie – unheard of.

However, the heat should lose some feathers in the next few days. An atmospheric trough will set the record straight for the entire area and cause temperatures to fall close to seasonal norms. Keep in mind that the latter hovers around 8°C for southern Quebec.

A new episode on the radar

The passage of a low-pressure area would open the door for warm air from the southern United States, which will once again have a chance to enter the La Belle province.

Temperatures could even approach the 20°C mark in some places on Friday. If this situation occurs, many regions such as Montreal, Quebec and Gaspé could experience the last 20°C ever observed. So far, the first place on the podium belongs to November 10, 2020.

This episode can be short. At the moment only one day should reach such temperatures.

Such a heat wave is rather rare in the month of November. In general, the coolness begins to settle permanently in Quebec in the eleventh month of the year, setting the stage for the winter season. This is not the case this year: November will be punctuated by two outbreaks of unusual heat.

SWEET 5 (1)

In general, each November between 2010 and 2016, at least one day per province was recorded with mercury at or above 20°C.
