(ANSAmed) TEL AVIV, MARCH 31 Palestinian President Abu Mazen condemned Israel’s “dangerous escalation against our people and against our holy sites.” The announcement, writes the Maan news agency, came after a morning of violence that left at least three Palestinians dead and after a farright Israeli MP, Itamar Ben Gvir, went to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount escorted by police officers.
Abu Mazen warned that these “provocations” could draw the region into an atmosphere of tension and escalation. He noted they also risked undermining efforts being made at various levels to ensure calm during the upcoming Islamic Ramadan celebrations: apparently a reference to the meeting he had with King Abdallah days ago in Ramallah of Jordan, which he later received with the Israeli head of state Isaac Herzog in Amman.
