A Truck rammed pedestrians in the center of Passau, in GermanyA 37-year-old woman died and shortly afterwards her 11-year-old daughter, who was rescued and taken to hospital. Four other people were injured. Among them was the driver of the heavy-duty vehicle, who is now in the hospital: the fire department had to be called in to rescue him because he was trapped in the sheet metal. It was not an attack, but an accident: the driver had apparently hit pedestrians after overtaking a stationary vehicle.
The people involved, all German nationals, were transported to hospital and the Schanzl Bridge in the area of the accident was temporarily closed to traffic and then reopened. In addition to the 63-year-old driver, the dead woman's nine-year-old son and two other women aged 70 and 45 were also injured. The truck driver is now in police custody after receiving necessary medical treatment.
The accident occurred around 9:50 a.m. According to a businesswoman reported by the Passauer Neue Presse, the truck driver may have seen the stopped bus too late and tried to avoid it. The van ended up crashing into a wall. In the moments that followed, however, memories came back to December 2016, when an attacker carried out an attack with a truck Massacre by mowing down pedestrians at a crowded Christmas market in Berlin.
