In the midst of the social upheaval, where injuries are being counted everywhere every day, a new accident occurs: a large-scale car accident that has cost the lives of 26 people so far. Early in the morning, an interprovincial bus with more than 60 people on board overturned at kilometer 121 of the Panamericana Norte between the districts of El Alto and Los Organos in the Piura region.
The Q’orianka Tours Águila Dorada company vehicle, license plate A7D-780, was driven by Jesús Flores Navarro, who also lost his life. Although the cause of the tragedy is still unknown, it is suspected that it would have been a poor maneuver due to the complexity of this stretch of road, known by the chilling name “Devil’s Curve”. In 2020, seven people died and 45 were injured on the same route when another bus lost control and overturned.
If, on that occasion, a large group of Barcelona club fans traveled from Guayaquil, this time, according to the Los Órganos Road, Transport and Road Safety Directorate, citizens of Haitian nationality were the most affected. It has not yet been possible to determine the identities of all the fatalities or why there were so many Central Americans. The truth is that in recent years it has been reported that the Haitian population has frequently entered Peru from Chile, right in the border region of Tacna. His goal: to return to his country.
The wounded were treated at nearby El Alto, Máncora and Talara hospitals. It will be a long process for them to process the horror scenes they had to witness. It is estimated that it was a fall of 80 meters. The final destination of the bus was the Tumbes region. It took a combined effort from the police, Serenazgo and fire departments to aid in the rescue effort.
