A drunk woman caused a collision with another vehicle, fled and was eventually arrested by police in Saint-Pierre-de-l’Île-d’Orléans early Saturday afternoon.
According to a witness interviewed by Le Journal, the accident caused massive congestion on the island bridge, forcing motorists to wait for almost an hour.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the collision occurred around 1 p.m. on the coast after the island bridge. The suspect then attempted to overtake a car and as she returned to her lane, she crashed into the vehicle in front. Both cars ended up in the ditch.
The driver who initiated the contact then fled before being found and arrested by police, who discovered she did not have a valid driver’s license.
The woman is facing charges of hit-and-run, dangerous driving and impaired driving.
However, authorities said the three adults and child who were in the other vehicle were not seriously injured.
An SQ paramedic attended the scene to clarify the circumstances of the incident; there could also be charges.
At 4:30 p.m. there was still alternating traffic, so there was still a huge traffic jam.
