Accident on the Île d’Orléans: The driver did not have a valid driving license

A drunk woman caused a collision with another vehicle, fled and was eventually arrested by police in Saint-Pierre-de-l’Île-d’Orléans early Saturday afternoon.

According to a witness interviewed by Le Journal, the accident caused massive congestion on the island bridge, forcing motorists to wait for almost an hour.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the collision occurred around 1 p.m. on the coast behind the island bridge. The suspect then attempted to overtake a car and when she returned to her lane, she crashed into the vehicle in front. Both cars ended up in the ditch.

The driver who caused the contact subsequently fled before being found and arrested by police, who discovered she did not have a valid driver’s license.

The woman faces charges of hit-and-run, dangerous driving and negligence.

However, authorities said the three adults and child who were in the other vehicle were not seriously injured.

An SQ reconstructionist went to the scene to clarify the circumstances of the incident; Charges could also follow.

At 4:30 p.m. there was still alternating traffic, so there was still a huge traffic jam.
