Montreal Alouettes players who used their underdog status as motivation will need to find a new source of inspiration in 2024.

On Wednesday, the Canadian Football League (CFL) released its first ranking of its “Power Rankings” teams and the reigning champions are at the top.

Remember that in 2023, the Belle Province club finished last in this exercise, which is carried out every year a few weeks after the free agent market opens.

“While the Alouettes would like to be at the bottom of the list again this year, that is simply not possible. Not with the work of general manager Danny Maciocia as his team prepares to defend its title in 2024 with the core of the group intact in 2023,” the CFL explained the Sparrows’ ranking.

Since winning the Gray Cup, Maciocia has notably negotiated contract extensions with Cody Fajardo, Shawn Lemon, Darnell Sankey and Tyrice Beverette. The GM also offset the losses of two key players heading to the NFL by bringing in defensive linemen Derek Wiggan and Dylan While and wide receiver Tevin Jones.

The CFL places the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who defeated the Als in the final, in second place in their rankings.

It is the Calgary Stampeders who inherited the last spot in this list.
