According to the European Commission, Taylor Swift is needed to get young people to vote

During a press conference on Wednesday, Margaritis Schinas, one of the vice-presidents of the European Commission, recalled that in 2023, tens of thousands of young Americans registered to vote on social media at the invitation of the famous singer Taylor Swift. The pop star will tour Europe between spring and summer 2024, and Schinas said he hopes Swift can also convince young European voters to vote and get involved in politics, with European Parliament elections coming up on June 6-9, 2024 to participate in life:

I very much hope that someone from your press office will follow this conference and pass our concerns on to you.

Schinas, who also represents the Delegation for the Protection of the European Way of Life in the Commission, added that “it is the young people who can mobilize the participation of young people, more than the commissioners”. Overall, voter turnout in the European Parliament elections is quite low: however, in 2019 it was above 50 percent for the first time in more than twenty years, also thanks to a very high turnout of young people. According to Schinas, it is “crucial” that voter turnout remains high in 2024.

It is not the first time that Schinas has attracted attention with a pop music stunt: in 2018, when he was spokesman for the commission, he responded by quoting the titles of two ABBA songs to a journalist, who in turn was the well-known Swedish Music group appears in your question?
