“The convoy of five trucks and two ICRC vehicles was transporting vital medical supplies (…), particularly to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society’s Al-Quds Hospital, when it was hit by gunfire. “Two trucks were damaged and a driver was slightly injured,” the ICRC said in a statement, saying it was “deeply concerned” that its humanitarian convoy had been “attacked.”
“These are not conditions in which humanitarian personnel can work,” said William Schomburg, head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Gaza.
“We are here to provide urgent assistance to civilians in need. Ensuring that life-saving assistance can reach medical facilities is a legal obligation under international humanitarian law.”
According to the statement, “after the incident, the convoy changed its route and reached Al-Shifa Hospital, where it delivered medical supplies” before sending “six ambulances carrying seriously injured patients towards the Rafah border crossing” on the border between… accompanied Gaza Strip and Egypt.
