American actor Charlie Sheen, star of the series “My Uncle Charlie,” was attacked in his Malibu home by a woman who has since been arrested, local police said Friday.

Los Angeles County police officers intervened at the actor's luxurious mansion after they were alerted to reports of assaults and disturbances, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The actor has been identified as the victim, he said. The suspect, identified as Electra Schrock, was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon likely to cause serious injury and burglary, he added.

She broke into his home and attacked him when he opened the door, the sheriff's office said.

According to the TMZ website, Electra Schrock, 47, is a neighbor of Charlie Sheen.

She ripped Charlie's shirt and tried to strangle him, TMZ reports, adding that the actor was seen by paramedics but was not taken to the hospital.

According to the trade magazine, this would not be the first confrontation between the two neighbors.

Addiction problems

Charlie Sheen – real name Carlos Estevez – son of actor Martin Sheen and brother of comedian Emilio Estevez – became an international star in the 1980s thanks to films like Platoon and Wall Street.

From the 2000s onwards, he appeared primarily on television in series such as Spin City (which won him a Golden Globe), Mon Uncle Charlie and Anger Management.

The 58-year-old star is known to have struggled with alcohol and drug addiction in the past.

According to Forbes magazine, he was the highest-paid television actor in the world between 2010 and 2011 and was removed from the hit series My Uncle Charlie in 2011 due to his erratic and violent behavior.
