American actress Anne Heche, 53, died Friday (December 8) after spending a week in hospital following a car accident, an agent for the actress said.
Although Heche is “legally dead,” her representative said her body will remain connected to devices pending organ donation procedures.
“Today we lost a shining star, a caring and cheerful soul,” the family said in a statement about the actress.
A mother of two, Heche has acted in films such as Donnie Brasco, A Bad Deal and a remake of Psycho.
Last week, her car crashed into a house in Los Angeles.
Police said on Friday blood tests had tentatively shown the presence of drugs in his system, but further testing would be needed to determine whether the drugs administered at the hospital affected the initial results.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, Heche’s vehicle was “consumed by fire” after it smashed into a home about 10 feet, leaving the property “uninhabitable.”
