Actress Anne Heche falls into a coma after a serious accident in Los Angeles

According to her representative, she is in “extremely critical condition”; see the full official note (via Vanity Fair):

“At this point Anne is in an extremely critical condition. She has a severe lung injury that requires mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgery. She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”

Heche has been in the hospital since Friday (5th). At the time, the actress crashed her car into an apartment complex garage and while trying to get it out, the vehicle crashed again, this time into a house. The impact was so severe that a fire broke out, engulfing the car and home.

About 60 firefighters were called to the scene and after an hour they were able to control the flames and save Heche. However, the house burned to the ground, according to resident Lynne Mishele, who said she lost “the belongings of her life”.

The police assume that she could have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident, which is why they demanded a blood test from the actress.
