Mia Goth is one of the great queens of current horror cinema. The actress managed to position herself as a real reference in the field through two key films: “X” and “Pearl”. Both films were directed by Ti West and are a diptych that crowned Goth a true horror star. However, the actress is currently facing a lawsuit due to a serious incident during the filming of her new project.
MaXXXine is the title with which Ti West will conclude his horror trilogy starring Goth. And that feature film was the setting for an incident starring an extra named James Hunter. The man filed a lawsuit against the famous actress, claiming that she intentionally kicked him in the head, which resulted in a concussion.
In the lawsuit filed by Hunter, he explains that he was hired for three days to play the “dead parishioner” and that on the first day of recording he had to lie on the floor covered in fake blood for several hours and endure the presence “of Ants and mosquitoes.” In this scene, Mia had to run to his side, stop, look at him, and then keep running. As Hunter's story explains, Goth almost accidentally stepped on him in the fourth take, and for this reason the extra expressed concern to the assistant director.
The story continues with the technician warning the actress to be careful when she passes Hunter. But when it came time to film this scene again, the additional highlights deliberately kicked him in the head. According to the lawsuit, the man claims he went to the bathroom and she “mocked and belittled” him.
Hunter suffered severe pain in the affected area and reports that he became so dizzy on the drive home that he had to stop twice. The next day, the man received a call from the production company asking him not to come to work for the remaining two days. The lawsuit filed by Hunter is against Mia Goth for assault and against director Ti West and production company A24 for wrongful termination.
After the success of “X” and “Pearl,” Mia enjoyed a meteoric rise in the film industry. “It feels good to finally be able to fully immerse myself in a character and to have someone like Ti believe in me enough to play more than one role in the same film. The story is getting longer and that excites me,” remarked Goth, who lived a difficult childhood until he realized his desire to become an artist. Mia Gypsy Mello da Silva Goth was born in London. Her mother, originally from Brazil, returned to her country at the age of 20 after giving birth to Mia, unable to raise her without the help of her family. Therefore, the young woman had to get used to a wandering life as her parents were constantly moving.
After a brief return to the UK, Goth settled in Canada with his parents at the age of 10 and attended nine different schools. Living with her father destabilized both her and her mother. “We tried to live with him, but it was a disaster, there was nothing positive,” the actress once said. During this turbulent time, she realized that acting was the only thing that helped her cope with what was happening at home. “After attending nine schools, I ended up learning a lot of things. In some cases I didn't fit in and they bullied me, so I stuck to the idea that I had to create a character to join a group and adopted different behaviors.
“I'm interested in stories that explore people's lives in a different way, rather than a plot that progresses. I'm attracted by the idea, the study of the characters and the actors who give their all together with directors who look for the real “They convince you to get the best out of yourself,” said Goth in conversation with Collider. And speaking of the director who brought her to the forefront of current terror, she concluded: “Working with you is a rewarding experience. Plus, I've always been chronically shy, so I was just happy to be on set until the character Pearl came along and gave me a purpose, an identity.”
