Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald about her formative years in Tinseltown, she told the publication: “I was young, I didn’t know how to protect myself.”

Canberra-born Mia, who chose not to reveal too much, said most young actresses were abused in Hollywood.

“I think you would be hard pressed to find a young woman who hasn’t experienced some level of abuse or inappropriate experiences or behavior towards you,” she said.

She concluded by saying, “But it’s not really something I’m talking about.”

Mia has left Hollywood in recent years and has moved back to Sydney to pursue local projects.

“I think I have less patience for the parts of the industry I don’t like. I don’t care that much about being pushed into an image that gets me jobs,” the All Saints star explained, calling Hollywood “oppressive.”

Now Mia is preparing to star in an Australian drama called Blueback.

The upcoming film is based on Tim Winton’s novel about the friendship between a boy and a blue groper.

This isn’t the first time Mia has spoken out about life as an A-lister, telling The Guardian in 2019 it wasn’t always as rosy as it seemed.

When asked what advice she would give young actors, Mia said, “If you really, really love it — go ahead, but my perspective has changed.”

She continued, “I’ve been doing this job around the world for ten years and after a while you feel empty.”

The Jane Eyre star went on to say that while she thinks acting is a “great” job, she admitted: “Perception is different from reality – it’s really lonely.”
