Acura Unveils Acura Precision EV Concept, Brand’s First EV SUV Coming in 2024

Acura launches its first electric SUV, the Acura Precision EV Concept. The EV SUV debuted today at Monterey Car Week, and Acura confirms it will be available in 2024.

Acura’s parent company, Honda, has been relatively slow to adapt to the changing auto market as consumers switch to electric vehicles. However, the legacy automaker is kicking it up a notch this year with a slew of EV reveals.

Honda plans to invest around $40 billion to produce 30 battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Earlier this summer, the automaker gave us a look at the Prologue EV, an electric SUV developed on a platform made with GM.

The Acura Precision EV Concept is part of the automaker’s design studio in LA’s future electric vision. Acura will build the EV SUV on its jointly developed platform with GM, on which the automaker plans to launch several EV models.

Acura National Sales Associate Vice President Emile Korkor said the company has big plans for an electric future.

The Acura Precision EV Concept is a design study that will set the direction for future Acura products in the electrified era, including our first all-electric SUV in 2024.

The EV SUV is inspired by the uniqueness and harmony of Italian luxury motor boats. According to the press release, Acura’s Precision EV Concept features a “broad, athletic stance, an expressive silhouette and a sharp character line.”

Acura is skipping the hybrid phase and going straight to electric vehicles. Its first all-electric model, the Acura ADX, is also slated to hit the streets in 2024. It will be followed by the automaker’s first electric SUV, the Precision EV Concept.

What we know about the Acura Precision Concept EV SUV

The automaker said it is accelerating electrification with the release of the Acura Precision Concept EV.

Acura Executive Creative Director Dave Marek said:

The Acura Precision EV Concept will be our North Star as we move into an exciting electrified future, and you’ll see how those design cues carry over to future production models.

The EV SUV features new theatrical lighting that illuminates Acura’s Pentagon grille. In addition, the Precision EV Concept will feature new “Particle Glitch” lighting at the front and rear and its 23-inch wheels.

Andy Foster, Acura’s chief exterior designer, spoke about the new Particle Glitch lighting and said:

The “Particle Glitch” detail below examines what EV performance might look like as Acura moves toward its electrified future.

The interior is inspired by the cockpit of a Formula 1 racing car. It features a low driving position, powerful sight lines, and a modified steering wheel.

In addition, the EV SUV features two driving experiences: Instinctive Drive Mode, which maximizes performance with ambient red lighting, and Spiritual Mode, which does the opposite by relaxing the steering wheel and projecting an “underwater” experience.

The EV SUV is the automaker’s third design concept since 2016 and previews what the future of Acura will look like. After making its debut at a private meeting today, the Acura EV Precision Concept will make its public debut tomorrow, Friday, August 19th.
