Adam Fantilli had an almost perfect birthday

For his 19th birthday on Thursday, Columbus Blue Jackets rookie Adam Fantilli was treated to several nice treats, including from the great Wayne Gretzky, and despite the 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, he’s thinking about a successful start to the season matter after.

The third overall pick in the 2023 draft recorded an assist in more than 13 minutes of play and finished with a rating of +1.

After breaking the ice in the National Hockey League, some helped him feel more comfortable even before his first skates. This includes La Merveille, who sent him an encouraging text message in the morning, and those close to him who congratulated him via videos he had access to the day before his debut.

Apparently there was more, like the traditional solo lap on the ice for beginners during the warm-up period, as well as the numerous signs from fans for him. Fantilli also received the usual cheers during the contest, especially when defenseman Jake Bean used his shot return to score the Jackets’ first goal.

“The first round was very pleasant. As soon as the puck was dropped, I felt like it was done. I was able to relax by just playing hockey. It was my pleasure. A lot happened, but I just wanted to put the first game behind me,” he told NHL.com.

“Everyone dreams of being on this ice, so I’m grateful I was able to achieve it,” he added. This is not the expected result. We need to correct some deficiencies. I know we have more potential. But overall it was good.”

Satisfied trainers

As for the instructor team, there was satisfaction with the crucial trio, completed by Kirill Marchenko and Justin Danforth.

“I think he was excellent,” said driver Pascal Vincent. I think this guy is a catalyst. This is the type of player who will compete in every sequence. Everyone makes mistakes, but… he will never make mistakes because of a lack of work. I am very impressed.”

“He just wants to be a hockey player, and we always appreciate that,” added assistant Mark Recchi. He constantly asks questions, he wants to improve and understand things. He’s fun to direct.”

The Jackets will take the lead again on Saturday by hosting the New York Rangers.
