Adele says she’s going to attend Super Bowl LVII “just to see Rihanna” perform at halftime

Adele revealed her plans to attend Super Bowl LVII on Friday, but instead of watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles battle for the Lombardi Trophy, the singer admitted she will “just watch Rihanna.”

The Rolling In The Deep hitmaker, 34, announced the reveal to a fan mid-concert during her stay in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, adding: “I don’t give a flying f***!” reported Us Weekly.

Rihanna will perform on Sunday, February 12th at the legendary Halftime Show, which will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, marking her first live performance in five years.

The British-born star reportedly updated an audience on her Super Bowl LVII plans earlier Friday during a concert for her Las Vegas residency, which began last November.

Both award-winning singers not only look up to each other for their individual talents, but have been close friends for over a decade.

Back in 2012, Rihanna humorously explained on The Jonathan Ross Show that she enjoyed attending the BRIT Awards to follow Adele, according to The Mirror UK.

“It wasn’t about the awards or the performance,” she admitted, jokingly adding, “For me, it was just about seeing Adele again. She doesn’t know the depth of my affection. She has no idea…’

The Someone Like You actor also shares the same excitement when paths cross with fellow singer.

In 2018, Adele mentioned Rihanna in her Time 100 essay, recalling, “I actually can’t remember the first time I met Rihanna; I was probably numb with shock,” Elle said.

The 15-time Grammy winner continued, “The development of her superstar status feels steady, well-deserved and utterly natural… The innovative and groundbreaking world of Rihanna that no one else will ever be safe in and get away with copying.” She makes her own rules and bends ours.’

Adele continued: “Whenever I’ve met her, she’s been the most lovely, loyal and fun jerk of an icon. It glows like someone took a picture with a flash and you’re dizzy for a few minutes afterwards.”

The Set Fire To The Rain singer said her friend is “fearless and full of the right attitude to be everything she is and always will be”.

Rihanna also sent her support to Adele after her incredible weight loss journey. Speaking to Closer, she said: “Adele looked amazing before the transformation and she looks amazing now.”

“It’s obvious the transformation was for her and wasn’t meant to impress anyone – and I’m just glad my girlfriend looks so confident and happy,” the mother-of-one sweetly added.

Adele seems thrilled to be flying to Arizona to cheer on her friend as she puts on a stunning performance during the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, which was officially announced in September 2022 to the delight of fans.

Music director Adam Blackstone recently hinted at what viewers and audiences can expect from the performance by stopping by Good Morning America.

“The story she wants to tell is simple, ‘Let’s be epic.’ Let’s make this a moment that people have never seen or heard before,” he said during the interview.

“We’re enforcing the concert in the middle of the greatest sporting event on earth,” added Blackstone. Last year’s Halftime Show cast members included Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Mary J Blige.
