At Forbidden Door on June 25 in Toronto, Orange Cassidy’s odds were slim again. Wagering his AEW International title in a 4-way tournament, he faced not only New Japan legend and Ring of Honor Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata and New Japan Television Champion Zack Saber Jr another member of the AEW squad, Daniel Garcia.
As you’d expect from this type of match, this was a fast-paced affair that gave every man a chance to shine – and gave us plenty of creative multi-man spots.
It also advanced the story of Cassidy’s amazing title reign. The champion had a chance to play one-on-one with each of his challengers for a while, trading strikes with Shibata, holding holds with ZSJ, and engaging in some fun sports with Garcia. OC also sold the injuries he sustained during his Take All Comers run.
He had to be smart to win his 25th defense. Shibata hit Garcia with a PK while Saber pinned the Jericho Appreciation Society member. Cassidy ran out through the wrestler and grabbed the pin.
The aftermath foreshadowed future clashes between the three champions in those games.
