AEW has removed former AEW World Champion MJF from the roster page of its official website.
The Salt of the Earth's contract with promoted Tony Khan expires on January 1, 2024, which may be the reason he was removed from the roster. While MJF has repeatedly stated that his contract expires on January 1st and has described himself as the “hottest free agent” in pro wrestling, some believe it's all a work in progress. A recent report from Haus of Wrestling claimed that a high-ranking WWE official told them that the 27-year-old had signed a contract last year before his return and the “bidding war” that MJF has continually claimed was all part of an angle.
Following the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view broadcast, AEW CEO Tony Khan praised MJF's contribution to the promotion, adding that the former Dynamite Diamond Ring winner has a job for life with AEW.
According to reports, the New York native will likely take some time off to heal from his injuries following his loss to Samoa Joe at the Worlds End pay-per-view on December 30. His loss to Joe marked the end of AEW's longest reign as World Champion, which lasted 406 days. The Worlds End show also revealed the identity of The Devil, who was revealed to be MJF's former tag team partner Adam Cole.
MJF recently stated that he loves AEW, but claimed that his contract expiration was a time for him to consider his future as a pro wrestler.
