AEW WrestleDream results – VoxCatch

This Sunday, October 1st, AEW offers the first-ever edition of WrestleDream. No fewer than fourteen matches make up the event card (including four on the Zero Hour pre-show). Wet your neck.

Christian Cage is announced in the main event as defending the TNT Championship against Darby Allin in a 2 out of 3 Dalls match. An amazing place to defend the TNT title, but with pretty big surprise potential.

However, MJF, who will not be defending his AEW Championship, will have a lot of work to do as he will be defending the two Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship belts against The Righteous in the absence of Adam Cole, who was at AEW Grand Championship last week had injured his ankle from slamming.

Bryan Danielson begins his road to the end of his full-time career with what promises to be a dream match against Zack Saber Jr. Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi face Sammy Guevara, Konosuke Takeshita and Will Osprey.

The only women’s match among all these men’s matches: Kris Statlander defends the TBS Championship against Julia Hart.

Zero Hour Pre Show

Satoshi Kojima, Keith Lee, Athena and Billie Starkz defeated Shane Taylor, Lee Moriarty, Mercedes Martinez and Diamante by pinfall with an O Face from Athena, a Ground Zero from Keith Lee and a Lariat from Kojima on Moriarty to end the match.

Claudio Castagnoli defeated Josh Barnett by pinfall with his neutralizer, followed by an octopus with which he achieved the pinfall.

After the game, Barnett praised Castagnoli’s talent, telling him that he came with no expectations but left with the utmost respect for him, adding that Antonio Inoki would be proud of him. However, he tells her that their story is not over and that they will meet again. It’s not explicitly mentioned, but we can expect a meeting at GCW Bloodsport with one of these four.

Luchasaurus defeated Nick Wayne by pinfall with a lariat.

The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn defeated TMDK by Pinfall with Billy Gunn’s Fame-asser, Anthony Bowens’ Arrival and Max Caster’s Mic Drop on Bad Dude Tito.

MJF saves his skin (and the ROH titles)

The pay-per-view begins with the handicap match for the ROH Tag Team Championships. In the absence of Adam Cole, MJF defends both belts alone against The Righteous.

MJF defeated The Righteous by pinning Vincent with his Kangaroo Kick and Heat Seeker to retain the title.

Great fight from MJF who managed to get the audience involved in this fight. A little insult from the heels, but more of a comedy wrestling finish, but it was certain that the match would go that way.

We move on to the fight. Katsuyori Shibata takes part in his match against Eddie Kingston. The ROH World Championship and NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion titles are on the line.

Eddie Kingston defeated Katsuyori Shibata by pinfall with a big powerbomb to retain his titles.

As expected, a good brutal fight. Kingston greets Shibata after the match and lets him celebrate with the crowd for a few minutes. With style.

Kris Statlander defends the TBS Championship against Julia Hart in the next match. Brody King is obviously at ringside.

Kris Statlander defeated Julia Hart by pinning his Sunday Night Fever to retain his title.

This was Julia Hart’s first pay-per-view match in AEW, the development since her debut has been clearly visible for some time and the character is becoming more and more interesting. Good idea to leave her alone for a while, far away from the rest of the House of Black (not that far, there’s still Brody King).

FTR against Young Bucks IV back on track

The next match is a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match: The Young Bucks, the Lucha Bros, the Gunns and the duo HOOK and Orange Cassidy fight for the challenger spot for the AEW Tag Team Championships – which are on the line tonight between FTR and Aussie Open.

The Young Bucks defeated Lucha Bros., The Gunns and Orange Cassidy & HOOK by dropping to Penta El Zero M with their BTE trigger.

Excellent game, fast, with a lot of action and great moments for each team. Also a lot of tension. We will note the disappearance of Rey Fenix during the game, who is visibly injured in the shoulder. The Young Bucks’ victory isn’t particularly surprising, they’re still struggling with FTR – and if the rumors are to be believed, that’s the plan for Full Gear.

Swerve Strickand takes on Hangman Page

In the next match, Swerve Strickland faced Hangman Page. There’s nothing at stake except Page’s symbolic and comfortable place on the card, which Strickland clearly dreams of.

Swerve Strickland defeated Hangman Page by dropping with its JML driver.

Strickland first attempted to cheat when Prince Nana was thrown out of the ring by the referee for putting Strickland’s foot on the ropes and hitting Page with Nana’s crown. No luck, Page got up from the fall. Big win for Strickland.

The match continues with the match between Ricky Starks and Wheeler YUTA. As in the pre-show for the Castagnoli game, Jon Moxley, who is back on screen tonight, takes his place at the commentary table.

Ricky Starks defeated Wheeler YUTA by falling with a spear and his Rochambeau.

A good pay-per-view win against a member of the BCC for Starks, allowing him to bounce back from his loss to Bryan Danielson in the Texas Death Match. Big Bill stepped in during the game to distract the proceedings, but did not allow the Starks to win outright. However, he was confronted by YUTA, who managed to avoid the chokeslam.

Bryan Danielson and ZSJ give a wrestling lesson

We’re sticking with Blackpool Combat Club and Jon Moxley is staying on as commentator for the next game. It’s time for the announced dream match between Bryan Danielson and Zack Saber Jr. It’s the first time since… 2008 that the two wrestlers will face each other.

Bryan Danielson defeated Zack Saber Jr. by pinfall with a Busaiku Knee.

“Holy shit,” Moxley says at the very end of the game, and we couldn’t have said it better. The match was everything you could expect from Danielson and ZSJ: a lesson in wrestling, at least five stars. Saber Jr didn’t want to shake Danielson’s hand after the match as he was frustrated with the loss. We will also note Nigel McGuiness’ comments reflecting a desire to face Bryan Danielson in the near future.

Victory for the Don Callis family

In the following match, the trio of Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi faced the trio of Sammy Guevara, Konosuke Takeshita and Will Ospreay accompanied by Don Callis.

Will Ospreay, Konosuke Takeshita and Sammy Guevara defeated Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho and Kota Ibushi By pinfall, Guevara pinned Jericho while Ospreay held his leg.

The heels took advantage of a push into the ring by Don Callis, who hit Jericho with a swing of his bat while Jericho was applying his Walls of Jericho to Guevara. A good game and a victory that Guevara gave to the Don Callis family, who by pinning Jericho secured his membership in the Don Callis group. What is certain is that the rivalry is not over yet.

We’re surprised that the public is still so involved in the progress of the matches after watching Strickland vs. Page, Danielson vs. ZSJ, and this game. And the following still have a lot to offer.

In the penultimate match of the pay-per-view, FTR defends its AEW Tag Team Championships against the Aussie Open.

FTR defeated the Aussie Open by pinfall with her Shatter Machine on Kyle Fletcher to retain their titles.

Great game, even if we fear that Mark Davis injured his wrist. With that win no longer in doubt, FTR vs. Young Bucks IV is on track for AEW Full Gear next month.

Adam Copeland is All Elite

We end this pay-per-view with the 2 out of 3 forfeit match between TNT Champion Christian Cage and Darby Allin for the former’s title. Allin gave his skateboard to a kid in the front row.

  • Darby Allin defeated Christian Cage (1-0) by pinning Cage after throwing the turtleneck over his face. Sent.
  • Christian Cage defeated Darby Allin (1:1) by countout on the outside after his back was slammed into the ring steps twice. Darby Allin is put on a stretcher after this point, but Cage doesn’t want to stop there, dismantling the ring mat before throwing himself onto the stretcher for a frog splash.
  • Christian Cage defeated Darby Allin by pinfall (2-1). Taking advantage of a punch from the referee (another one), Cage went to hit Allin with the TNT Championship belt, but Nick Wayne came to stop him… Then he hit Allin with it himself. The referee came to his senses in time to catch him.

Christian Cage defeated Darby Allin to retain his TNT championship title.

After the match, Nick Wayne and Darby Allin continue to attack Darby Allin. Sting comes to Allin’s aid, but Luchasaurus also joins him and Sting is left alone against the three wrestlers.

Then the lights go out. A video is broadcast: an easily recognizable silhouette gets into a car and sets off (where we see the inscription “Rated R”). Then, no surprise, Edge comes out with the same theme song as in the WWE.

Doubts remain in the ring: Will he join Christian Cage or save Darby Allin and Sting? Cage hesitates and gives him a chair so he can carry the Con-Chair-To that was prepared for Sting… But Edge uses the chair on Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus, who then takes a spear. Christian Cage would rather run away.

Edge is introduced as Adam Copeland, but retains his “Rated-R Superstar” moniker, while Tony Khan announces that he is All Elite. WrestleDream ends with this excellent news.
