AfD politician wanted in Bavaria on arrest warrant news

AfD politician Daniel Halemba, recently elected to the Bavarian state parliament, is wanted by the Würzburg Public Prosecutor’s Office on an arrest warrant. A spokesperson for the investigative authority confirmed this to dpa today. “For tactical reasons, we do not want to say anything about the exact accusation or reason for the arrest,” the spokesperson said. Halemba has not yet been found.

Halemba could not yet be reached for comment. The AfD had already announced yesterday that one of its deputies was wanted on an arrest warrant, but without mentioning his name. “An arrest warrant has been issued for a recently elected member of the AfD in the Bavarian state parliament,” she said simply. This should be “imprisoned in a weak justification”, emphasized AfD parliamentary group leader Katrin Ebner-Steiner.

Deputies generally enjoy immunity. However, this will only come into effect after next Monday’s constituent meeting. Halemba, 22, would be the youngest politician in the Bavarian state parliament. The new state parliament is scheduled to be constituted on Monday. It is currently unclear whether the arrest warrant against him can be executed by then.
