After 30 years without acting, Christine Lamer sees her role in Witches – 7 Days – as a gift

It's rare that we witness an actress return to a film set 30 years after she last set foot there. This is the case of Christine Lamer, in which we happily find ourselves Witches. The actress talks to us about her return to the spotlight.

Christine, what role do you play in this drama?
I play Clémence, the wife of Pierre Labonté, played by Carl Béchard. Clémence is the mother of Philippe (Patrick Drolet). She is a woman who is somewhat dominated by her husband; a type of character I've never played before. She is sweet, tender and friendly. I can't reveal what's coming, but he's definitely an interesting character. She will recover when she finds out about terrible affairs. And drama will happen with her husband. Since she is naive, she will have a hard time believing what is happening.

Will viewers feel empathy for her?
I think so. Many women will probably recognize themselves in Clémence's attitude.

What relationship does he have with his son?
They are not easy. But since he is her son, she tends to protect him.

Has filming for the first season been completed?
Yes. Normally they were supposed to move on to Season 2 in April. I shot the last episode of the season in mid-January and it's pretty dramatic. I think my character will return next season. At least I wish so!

Were you nervous or excited when you filmed your first scene, 30 years after your leading man? The gold of time?
I was very excited and didn't feel nervous at all, perhaps because of the very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere that existed on set. I was particularly happy to be able to play there. The atmosphere on set is extraordinary! And everyone is in their own business. I received a warm welcome from my work colleagues and technicians. When I arrived, the director said to the people on set, “We're welcoming a new actress today.” And everyone applauded. It touched me, I thought it was so great!

Do you see this role as a great gift?
Absolutely! I always hoped that one day I would have the opportunity to act on television again. I always believed in it, but I never stopped waiting for a call. I did other things including a lot of theater touring and writing. And then it happened. I didn't audition, I was just asked if I was interested. Of course I said yes! It is a source of pride for me. I knew I would work with Carl Béchard, who is a very good actor and still teaches at the conservatory. I celebrated my 70th birthday on October 27th and all of this is happening to me. My 11th book will also be published in March. So I can say that this is the beginning of a new decade that is looking good. I'm so spoiled!
