Burnier was scheduled to work Globo's New Year's Eve shift. On December 27th, 28th and 29th he presented local news in São Paulo, but was replaced by Ana Paula Campos on the 30th.

He took over SP2 in April 2022 following the dismissal of Carlos Tramontina. Burnier hosted Conexão GloboNews and was eventually moved to Open TV. In 2019, the communicator even requested a medical leave of absence to treat cancer at the base of the tongue and returned in 2020 after curing the disease.
