After a spring-April Fool’s joke, the cold returns to Montreal –

The thermometer’s first foray above 15C in southwest Quebec on Saturday afternoon finally looked like Spring’s April Fool’s joke as winter regained its rights under a frigid Sunday sun.

After a torrential downpour that gave way to the loveliest clearing of 2023, Montrealers returned to the cold with a mercury that plummeted to -7C on Sunday morning.

Despite bright sunshine, the daytime thermometer is unlikely to climb above freezing to reach a meager 2°C, a far cry from the brief bliss felt the previous day.

On the Québec side, the capital had not allowed the sun to break through to save the metropolis and was expecting a gray day just above freezing. The mercury there still fell to -8 °C on Sunday morning and should not exceed -1 °C during the day.

In Sherbrooke, Saguenay or even on the North Shore, regions that are entitled to snow showers on Sunday morning, the temperature should also not exceed freezing point.

On the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie side, the day will be marked mainly by strong winds that will clear the last clouds and the last snow showers, not without causing snowfalls.

A strong wind warning with gusts of up to 90 km/h has been issued by Environment Canada for the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts and Grande-Vallée sectors. The wind could also reach up to 80 km/h in Forillon Park.
