sputnik In a statement today (24) to reporters during the celebrations of the 105th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, leaders of the Atlantic Alliance and the European Commission have discredited the Chinese proposal for the conflict in Eastern Europe.
During the week, peace plans for the conflict in Ukraine were discussed by some countries, including China and Brazil. However, Beijing has not received much credit from NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg and EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen.
Both received the Chinese proposal with reservations and did not see it as credible, according to Portal.
“China doesn’t have much credibility because it couldn’t condemn the illegal invasion of Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said, adding that Beijing had signed an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin just days before the operation began.
PROCEED TO RECOMMENDATIONS
Von der Leyen, on the other hand, said the Chinese government does not share a peace plan, only some principles.
“You have to see them in a certain scenario, and in that scenario, China has already taken sides, for example by forming an unlimited friendship just before the invasion […] So of course we’re going to look at the principles, but we’re going to look at them against the background that Beijing has taken sides,” added the president, quoted by the media.
While the West rejects China’s position and proposal, Moscow and Beijing are continuing diplomatic ties and reaffirming the friendship between the two nations.
On Wednesday (22), at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Ministry head Wang Yi in Moscow, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that relations between Russia and China will continue to grow as planned and will reach new horizons, it is reported.
