Former US President Donald Trump has now filed a lawsuit following his conviction in a civil suit for sexual abuse.
In May, a New York grand jury found that Trump had sexually assaulted and abused Carroll in an upscale New York department store in 1996. The jury rejected the rape allegation.
Shortly after Trump was awarded millions in damages, Carroll announced that he would take legal action against the former president again. As a reason, she cited other statements by Trump after the verdict. A federal judge in New York tentatively set the trial to begin on January 15, 2024.

Trump is now also suing Carroll for defamation. One of the reasons given for this was an interview that the author gave to CNN the day after the verdict was announced. During the interview, Carroll was asked specifically about the jury’s unanimous conclusion that Trump was not guilty of rape, Trump’s counterclaim said.

In the interview, the CNN journalist asked Carroll what went through his mind when he learned that the jury had rejected the rape charge. Referring to his lawyer, Carroll said he would explain the legal part. The CNN journalist reached out to Carroll – the American author finally responded: “Well, I immediately said to myself in my own head, ‘Oh yes, he did. Oh yes, he did. That’s my answer.’
