After jerseys, the NHL bans the rainbow ribbon

A few months after the National Hockey League (NHL) banned rainbow-colored jerseys for team-organized pride nights, it added another layer by banning the multi-colored ribbon.

The website outsports.com said Monday that several educational notes have been sent to Bettman’s racing teams about equipment that represents the LGBTQ+ community. The protective tape for the sticks, which was never mandatory, was also put on the black list.

This new decision aroused the ire of several Internet users on social networks. Some believe the NHL has undone all the progress the LGBTQ+ community has made in a few months.

Last year, several players refused to wear the special uniform for religious reasons. The Russians in particular feared a possible reaction from Vladimir Putin’s regime. Eric and Marc Staal, Ivan Provorov and Denis Gurianov are among those who did not take part in warm-ups to avoid wearing the Pride jersey.
