Maine and Colorado's decisions to bar Donald Trump from the 2024 primary are increasing pressure on the Supreme Court, which has been clamoring to rule on the former president's eligibility. A few weeks after the first votes in the White House race, as the Iowa caucuses began their dance in January, the Supreme Court is being asked to shed light on an unclear clause of an amendment to the Constitution, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
Maine and Colorado, which disqualified Trump, face Minnesota and Michigan, which say the former president can remain in the race. California's secretary of state has rejected the idea of removing Trump from the vote, while Oregon has yet to comment on the matter.
For the Supreme Court, resolving the dispute over Trump's electability will be the biggest political decision since the 2020 election, when he handed the White House to George W.
Bush.
