Workers at Montreal’s Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery reached an agreement with their employer on Thursday after an indefinite strike paralyzed activity at the site for several months.
“The ratification of this agreement allows the conclusion of the new collective agreement, which expires on December 31, 2027,” the factory told the parish of Notre-Dame de Montréal.
This agreement allows the cemetery’s activities, which had been suspended for nine months, to resume, thus preventing the burial of 700 deceased.
Those responsible for maintaining the site will be the first to resume work on July 17. They will primarily focus “on ground clearance and certain operational requirements.”
“Following this agreement, we will gradually communicate with the families awaiting their funeral on site to arrange appointments and make the necessary arrangements,” explained Michel St-Amour, Volunteer Administrator.
Remember that the cemetery clerks were the first to go on strike last October. Maintenance officials followed suit in January.
