Zelenskyy: “Reconstruction immediately”
“Ukraine must become the freest, most modern and safest country in Europe.” This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his speech to his fellow citizens at night. Zelenskyy then warned against taking the risk of waiting for the end of the Russian military campaign to start rebuilding the affected infrastructure. Zelenskyy only briefly referred to Russia’s recent military advances in the Donbass and spoke of casualties inflicted on the Russian army by Ukrainian armed forces on a daily basis. “We have to bend them,” he said, explaining that this would take time and “superhuman effort”, adding that there was no alternative if Ukraine’s future was to be secured.

Gb, “Russia will continue to shave cities”
With Moscow in control of Ukraine’s Lugansk region, the Ukrainian armed forces have a more easily defended front line, writes British intelligence in its daily update on the situation in the country. The report, published by the Defense Ministry on Twitter, confirms that Russia’s “relatively quick capture” of Lysychansk has enabled its armed forces to extend control over virtually the entire Lugansk region and claim significant progress on what politicians presented as the immediate objective of the war, viz the “liberation” of the Donbass. In contrast to previous phases of the war, the report goes on to say, Russia has probably achieved reasonably effective coordination between at least two groups of forces: the central one, probably under the command of General-Colonel Alexandr Lapin, and the southern one, probably under the command of Appointed General Sergei Surovikin, lately. The battle for Donetsk was characterized by a slow advance and the “massive” use of artillery by Russia, “leveling towns and cities”, and the fighting in the Donetsk region “will almost certainly continue”.
