Following the electoral victory of China-critical candidate Ching-te Lai in Taiwan, the Beijing regime continues to insist on “reunification”. But there is currently no threat of war, experts say.
Taipei/Beijing. The Chinese leadership revealed once again this weekend that reality in Beijing is primarily an ideological category. In fact, there is no doubt that the presidential elections in Taiwan represent a bitter defeat for China's head of state, Xi Jinping. Abroad, however, people simply refuse to acknowledge the obvious facts.
The Taiwan Affairs Office in Beijing said in a statement that the elections could not change “the general trend towards inevitable reunification” with the mainland: “The results of the two elections show that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is not capable of representing prevailing public opinion.”
