This is a moving series because we understand that the tragedy was foreseeable, that it could have been avoided, and that, unfortunately, it is not impossible for another community to experience such a tragedy. By proving that the thesis of the accident (on the rails) is not true, the question is not whether one day another derailment like that of Lac-Mégantic will bring down the honor of an entire population, but rather the question of when will happen.

Several people speak into the camera, including people directly involved in the derailment – the train driver Tom Harding is conspicuous by his absence, but his ex-colleague Richard Labrie, who has been exonerated, does not shy away – as well as survivors and the then mayor Colette Roy Laroche.

Despite its role as a coast-to-coast transportation safety regulator, Transport Canada refused to answer Philippe Falardeau’s questions about the July 6, 2013 train disaster that killed 47 people, not including any incidental victims.

Former transport ministers Denis Lebel – transferred to another ministry six days after the derailment – and Marc Garneau – who received the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) report after the tragedy – both refused to speak on camera, as did the We mentioned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to the media last spring about the production of the four 60-minute episodes.

The documentary series Lac-Mégantic – ceci n’est pas un accident, produced by Trio Orange in collaboration with Quebecor Content, will air on Tuesday, November 7th at 8 p.m. on TVA and is also available on TVA+. The feature film Mégantic, produced by ALSO Productions and directed by Alexis Durand-Brault, is available on Club illico for those who have not yet seen it.
