After the riot Florida loosens gun laws

Florida allows the carrying of firearms without a license. Although just a few days ago there was a riot at a school.

Earlier this week, a 28-year-old woman opened fire at a school in Tennessee. Six people and the shooter himself were killed. Despite that, the Florida Senate on Thursday passed a new rule that would allow citizens to carry concealed weapons without a special permit.

The vote for the rule, backed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, was unequivocal. 27 out of 40 senators voted to relax the gun laws. Governor DeSantis, who is considered a possible Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 election, has vowed to sign the law into law quickly. Florida becomes the 26th US state to allow concealed carry.

Appropriate training and an application with a corresponding candidate review were required beforehand. In the future, however, an identification document, such as a driver’s license, will suffice.

The purchase of weapons is still only allowed for people over 21 years old. Additionally, the buyer is verified with a “background check”. However, convicted felons are still prohibited from acquiring guns.
