After Texas A&M-Commerce defeated the University of the Incarnate Word 76-72 on Monday, a massive brawl broke out after the game.

The brawl broke out during the post-game handshake when several players began punching each other. Members of both teams joined the wild mosh pit near center court before chaos spilled onto the floor.

Several staff members attempted to break up the players and take them to the locker rooms. However, the lack of control of the players led to injuries to staff and a spectator, the broadcast team reported.

An analyst said a “young girl” in the crowd was injured during the brawl. They also mentioned that a team manager had “blood on his face.”

The Southland Conference addressed the incident in a statement shortly afterwards.

“We will work closely with both universities to review the footage and take appropriate disciplinary action,” the statement said. “Unsportsmanlike conduct is unacceptable in the Southland Conference and the safety of our student-athletes, spectators and officials remains our top priority.”

The two teams involved are at the bottom of the conference and go into Monday's game with just three wins each. The Lions also defeated the Cardinals 71-66 in their last meeting.

After their game in January, Texas A&M Commerce head coach Jaret von Rosenberg described the contest as a “dogfight” on his postgame radio show.

The scuffle came just days after another brawl broke out Thursday between the Southern Mississippi and Arkansas State women's basketball teams.

The brawl resulted in several players and staff members falling to the ground before five players were ejected. The game continued as the Lady Eagles won 57-48.
