After Twitter, Trump may return to YouTube

Online video platform YouTube announced on Friday that it would end Donald Trump’s suspension, two years after the former US President was expelled from the Capitol Hill attack.

“As of today, Donald J. Trump’s channel will no longer be subject to restrictions,” the American giant said on Twitter.

The Republican, the 2024 presidential candidate, was banned from the social network in January 2021 while still in office for encouraging his supporters to attack Congress in Washington.

This unprecedented decision was emulated by most mainstream social networks at the time, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

To justify its decision, YouTube said on Friday that it had assessed “the risk of violence” while considering how important it was for voters to hear “evenly from key national candidates.”

Donald Trump had already been allowed back on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in the past few months. However, he has yet to post any message on his accounts and communicates mainly through his own platform, Truth Social.
