The CEO of an Indian AI startup has reportedly been arrested for the alleged murder of her four-year-old son after the child's remains were found in her luggage.
Suchana Seth, who runs the Mindful AI Lab, was taken into custody in the southern state of Karnataka on Monday after authorities contacted a taxi driver who was transporting her and asked him to take her to the nearest police station, Portal reports Citing Goa Police official Paresh Naik.
Naik said Seth checked into a hotel in Goa state on Saturday, but the boy was missing when she left the property on Monday evening, according to Portal.
Naik told the news agency that the hotel's cleaning staff found blood stains in Seth's room and informed the police.
“When her luggage was opened, the child's body was found,” North Goa Police Commissioner Nidhin Valsa told Portal.
The circumstances of the alleged murder are unclear, but Indian news site The Week said Seth reportedly told police that she and her husband were estranged and divorce proceedings were underway.
According to Portal, Seth has now been returned to the state of Goa for questioning, while her husband, who was in Indonesia at the time of the murder, has been asked to return to India.

The 39-year-old's Bangaluru-based company says on its website: “We are a team with extensive expertise in AI ethics and practical prototyping, deployment and scaling of machine learning systems.”

Seth's LinkedIn page describes her as an “AI ethics expert and data scientist with over 12 years of experience supporting data science teams and scaling machine learning solutions at startups and industry research labs” and that she is a “Fellow at Berkman Klein Center” is at Harvard University.”
Harvard’s website said: “At Berkman, Suchana [was] Exploring ways to operationalize ethical machine learning and AI in the industry. Her interests include testing algorithms for fairness, accountability and transparency in machine learning, ethical monetization of AI, specific vulnerabilities in machine learning and AI systems, and the regulatory landscape for predictive algorithms.”
