IInterior Minister Gerhard Karner, together with Red Cross Secretary General Michael Opriesnig, approved an aid transport to the earthquake area in Turkey and Syria.
A total of 200 family tents, 200 heaters, 2200 camp beds and associated blankets will be delivered. Shipments also include more than 2,100 hygiene packs, each of which can last a month per family, as well as 11,340 bottles of disinfectant and 81,000 pairs of sterile gloves.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner: “For Austria, it goes without saying that we support the people in Turkey and Syria who were affected by the earthquake disaster. After the first rescue operations in the earthquake area, the Ministry of Interior is organizing the transport of emergency supplies together with relief organizations to help those affected in the coming weeks and months. It is important for us to support rapid assistance on site and I would like to thank everyone who is making their contribution here.”
Relief supplies will be delivered according to requests from Turkey or Syria. The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for coordinating international relief in Austria and finances relief supplies worth around 400,000 euros for the care and accommodation of people in their home countries.
