Aidos Yerbossynuly in critical condition after brain surgery

Through Jack Tiernan: Aidos Yerbossynuly is reportedly in critical condition after undergoing brain surgery last Sunday after being knocked out in the 12th round by WBA super middleweight champion David Morrell last Saturday night at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Yerbossynuly has been placed in a medically induced coma and is in critical condition, according to Marca. It’s still too early to know what the outcome will be for Yerbossynuly.

30-year-old Yerbossynuly (16-1, 11 KOs) suffered a horrific one-way penalty from champion Morrell (8-0, 7 KOs) and had no chance of a win from the start.

“Aidos Yerbossynuly (16-1-0, 11 KOs) was placed in a medically induced coma after undergoing surgery for a brain hemorrhage after losing to David Morrell (8-0, 7 KOs) on Saturday night” , says Marca.

In the 12th round, Yerbossynuly looked like he needed a save as he was beaten by Morrell.

Despite this, neither the referee nor his corner did anything to stop the fight until Yerbossynuly was knocked down twice. At this point, the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

When Yerbossnuly tried to walk back to his corner after the fight was called off, he collapsed, necessitating the referee and Morrell to assist him, backing him up every step of the way.

It’s unclear why the referee or Yerbossynuly’s corner didn’t end the fight sooner than it was obvious he was being punched by Morrell.

The undefeated 24-year-old Morrell passed Yerbossy 237 to 82 with 70% of his shots being upstairs power punches.

The 30-year-old Yerbossynuly, who hails from Kazakhstan, was not competitive, especially in the later rounds. He didn’t have the hand speed or boxing skills to deal with Cuban Morrell and it was disturbing to watch the fight because it was so one sided.

The World Boxing Association did Yerbossynuly no favors by giving him a No. 1 spot and making him a mandatory challenger to WBA 168-pound champion Morrell after a win over Lennox Allen. That’s the only notable name on Yerbossynuly’s seven-year pro résumé, and it’s not a big name.

In hindsight, the WBA should have picked a better prepared fighter than Yerbossynuly as their #1 contender for Morrell, since it was clear before the fight that he wasn’t in the same class as the champion.
