Air Canada employees fall victim to a data breach

Air Canada employees were victims of a data breach, but flight operations were not affected by the incident, the company assures.

“An unauthorized group briefly had limited access to an internal Air Canada system that related to some personal information of certain employees and certain files,” Air Canada said in a news release Wednesday.

According to the company, flight operating systems were not affected.

“No one had access to any information about customers,” the carrier claims.

Internal information

Air Canada says it has “communicated with the individuals whose personal information was affected and with relevant authorities.”

In response to a question from Le Journal on Thursday morning, Air Canada declined to say how many Quebecers were affected and what information may have been stolen.

“The personal data in question was purely internal in nature and had no connection to operational processes or customers. In order not to play into the hands of the group involved, we are limiting our comments to our public statement yesterday,” said their spokesman Christophe Hennebelle on Thursday morning.
