One is very pleased with the warning signal at night. Nearly 100 people attended a rally on Wednesday night. About 100 officials are also expected to attend a rally on Thursday morning. Goods control workers are on strike until midnight on Friday and those at passenger control until Saturday morning.

Flights in Austria are also affected by strikes in Germany

The strikes at airports in Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Cologne also affect numerous connections with Austria. Düsseldorf Airport reported crashes and longer wait times and urged travelers to find out more. According to the operator, 121 of the 204 scheduled flights at Cologne/Bonn Airport were canceled on Thursday, affecting around 28,000 travellers. Flight cancellations are also expected on Friday. At Stuttgart airport, the Verdi union called a strike for Friday.

Warning strikes at Düsseldorf and Hamburg airports

Verdi also called on officials in aviation security, passenger control, personnel and goods control and service areas at Düsseldorf and Hamburg airports to carry out warning strikes throughout the day. The airport association ADV predicts that around 700 flights across the country will have to be canceled over the two days of the strike.

The background of the strikes are the negotiations

For workers at airports, Verdi wants employers to increase hourly supplements for night, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays and better pay overtime. The collective negotiations on April 11 and 12 did not result in an agreement. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for April 27th and 28th.

Warning strikes also among railway workers

Rail transport workers are also called on Friday to stop working. The rail and transport union EVG announced a warning strike from 3 am to 11 am. The effects can last in long-distance traffic well into the evening.
