An Al Jazeera cameraman was killed by a drone strike on Friday while covering the previous bombing of a school in the southern Gaza Strip that was being used as a shelter for displaced people, the Arabic broadcaster said.
Cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa was unable to reach safety or receive medical treatment after he was injured in the attack on Farhana School in Khan Younis and died of his injuries before ambulances were allowed into the area, Al Jazeera said.
Al Jazeera said Israeli drones fired missiles at the school. Portal was unable to verify details of the incident.
The Israel Defense Forces did not respond to a request for comment.
“After Samer's wound, he bled to death for more than five hours as Israeli forces prevented ambulances and rescue teams from reaching him and denied him urgently needed emergency treatment,” Al Jazeera said in a statement.
Journalists reported from the city in the south of the Gaza Strip, which has been at the center of the Israeli ground offensive in recent days.
Three members of Gaza rescue teams were also killed in an attack on the school, said the country's Civil Defense Department, part of the Hamascontrolled Interior Ministry. Portal was not immediately able to determine the sequence of events.
Al Jazeera's chief correspondent Wael alDahdouh was injured in the hand in the attack but was able to reach a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries, Al Jazeera said.
